The History Of Travel

Before cars or anything were invented, a few thousand years ago, people didn’t have much option for transportation. Their main mode of transport was walking. This limited how much they could travel. People took days to travel to some places which we could travel today in mere hours.

Since the world was basically one big jungle, there weren’t clear roads. People had to find a path to travel on. There are evidences of people migrating from one region to another but this was over the course of months. It was a difficult journey where people had to hunt and find food. It wasn’t a safe journey as well.

Soon, people started using animals to travel. Animals such as camels for the dessert, horses for every terrain and elephants. These animals were very useful in making progress. People were able to travel quite a large distance. They were also faster in their travels, especially on horses. Paths were also made so that it would be easier to travel. These paths were connected similar to the roads we use today.

During this time, boats were being built for sea travel. People sailed seeking new land. These boats were small and only could be used close to the shores. Overtime, as these boats were made bigger, ships were built. Ships were used to explore the world. To find land and riches. Trade routes were made. There was trade happening from nation to nation. The Silk Road was one of the biggest and popular routes at the time. It was a sea and land route where the East and West traded with each other.

Similarly, the invention of the wheel, led to the horse drawn carriages. Any people could travel at once and it was more comfortable than sitting on a horse. These carriages were easily damaged and like the quality panel beaters we have today, there were people who fixed the carriage up.As technology evolved, the steam engine was created. Trains became mainstream. Countries such the USA saw large expansions due to the railway. Connections were made from city to city.

Unlike today where we have Toyota, BMW and Porsche repairs, at the time repairs took days and it would cause major delays. The World War 1 and 2 saw the invention and use of automotive and planes. These vehicles became the primary mode of transport for many. Today we have different models and sizes of cars. We can travel anywhere at any time. Driving has become so easy and common. Similarly, we can fly to any country we want. Planes are faster and much safer. Hundreds and hundreds of people can travel by flight every second of the day. The world has become fast moving and the future holds further advances in travel.
